About Indie Books
Indie Books showcases new books from our vibrant independent author community to retailers, shops, libraries and schools across New Zealand.
The vision for Indie Books is to provide book buyers across New Zealand up to date information about new books published by independent Kiwi authors through a quality platform.
Indie Books began a quarterly publication distributed to retailers, shops, libraries and schools in New Zealand by hard copy and email. The printed A5 catalogue featured editorial, selected short author bios and a range of display advertisements. Due to rising costs in production and distribution of a printed product, the decision was made to move completely online in 2025.
The Indie Books website is a portal to the vibrant independent author community, with an author directory, featured books and author articles.
The newsletter has an email database of 250+ recipients and growing.
Social media accounts are established, and growing regularly in organic reach. Paid campaigns are planned as funds allow.
Background
Indie Books was the vision of members of the very active NZ Indie Authors Facebook group. Originally a one-off publication, it was reinvented as a monthly catalogue firstly by author Christopher Candy, and then by independent publisher Kirsten Wilson.
Currently Indie Books is co-ordinated by Lesley Webb, an Auckland freelance graphic designer. Lesley has a deep appreciation for the time, effort and investment authors make in producing high quality, marketable books, and has enjoyed developing Indie Books to reflect that quality to buyers.
