The Floods of 2030

Patrick Coogan

Adventure, Dystopian, Romance

The Floods of 2030 is an exciting dystopian novel set in New Zealand’s Far North. It examines how the advancing flood of technocracy will impact our present freedoms and attempt to imprison us as transhuman components within the global dystopian new world order.

In the year 2030, Brian O’Mahoney is visited by Rachel Philips from the Social Reconstruction Taskforce to deregister him from Digi currency and the State Living Allowance. Brian lives without electricity in the bush of New Zealand’s Far North. His Social Credit Score has zeroed as a result of his subsistence, hunter-gatherer lifestyle.

A flooded river throws them together and they discover that despite being on opposite sides of the bureaucratic fence, differences in lifestyle and social standing, are far less potent than physical attraction, intellectual connection and deep-seated human needs.

The 2030 floods of political authoritarianism threaten to sweep them apart. Will they survive together, or simply become transhuman components of the global dystopian technocracy? Is survival possible within the resulting social anarchy that threatens to drag them under?

Drawing inspiration from his experience living as a hunter gatherer in the NZ bush, Patrick Coogan’s novel challenges readers to consider how we will live when the systems we rely on begin to crumble.
