The Falling City
W.F. Stubbs
The Falling City, where humans have forgotten the past, have no concept of names and are only known by their occupations, three residents are about to discover a truth that will change their lives forever.
All the resident pedestrian knows is getting up and walking the streets, being a customer, and then returning to be an occupant of the house lived in. It is a simple existence filled with enjoyable music that is streamed into headphones day and night. But when the resident’s headphones break down and they are forced to deal with the noise battering their exposed ears, a search for answers leads to a descent into the darkest depths of the city they live in.
The City is a world of noise: Traffic on continuous motorways, recycled music blaring from shop fronts and onto footpaths, construction banging and clanging out across streets to rebuild what has decayed; It is a city where residents must wear cancans to isolate themselves from the pain of constant aural attacks and have them replaced with soothing sensory stimulations through the cancans strapped over their heads. Knowledge of the past is lost, and there is only myth now – myth that increasingly sounds like unbelievable fictions.
This new novel by W.F. Stubbs envisions a future that is all too relevant for the world we live in today.
